A Little Bakery in Barcelona
During my last visit to Barcelona three years ago, I stayed in a little hotel in the neighborhood of Gracia. The neighborhood is very residential and one day my friend and I made a wrong turn and stumbled upon Forn de Pa Fortino (Forn de Pa means bakery in Catalan). Being a consumer of Spelt grain for years, I had learned to recognize the word "Spelt" in a few different languages and noticed that this bakery sold Spelt products (Espelta in Spanish, Epautre in French, Farro in Italian). I walked in and the rest was history. The Spelt bread they bake is the best Spelt bread I've ever had IN MY LIFE. Amazingly, they even sold spelt sweets that were naturally sweetened. They also sell other whole-grain breads and sweets.
If any of you have ever been to Spain, you might know how hard it is to find decent bread in Spain. Although Spain is a neighbor to France, they don't seem to have picked up any hints about good bread from the French. If you're ever in Barcelona, I highly recommend a visit to this bakery. They make bread the old-fashioned way and cook their bread in their wood oven. Their address is:
Travessera de Gracia 145
Barcelona, Catalonia, 08012
Spain
