Restaurant Review: Petit Robert Bistro

Last night, I went to the Kenmore Location of the Petit Robert Bistro for dinner. I had read some encouraging things about it on Yelp and the menu looked both appetizing and well-priced. My friend made the reservation. When we arrived, our reservation was nowhere to be found, but my friend managed to persuade them to give us a table. The menu looked wonderful, lots of traditional French Bistro dishes like coq au vin, steak-frites, escargots, pate, soupe a l'onion, duck confit, boeuf bourguignon, and calf liver. I went for the steak-frites, served rare, and actually got it rare. Not American rare (which is more of a medium rare) but a French rare. The portion was surprisingly generous. Instead of indulging in fries, I asked for vegetables, but the vegetables looked like they came out of the freezer, jumped into the microwave for a defrost, and landed right on my plate.

I think my dining companions quite enjoyed their meals, but their plates also looked devoid of vegetables. I think that's very odd for French food. It always comes with at least a little bit of vegetables or a green salad. There are side dishes of vegetables you can order, however. Perhaps that is the Bistro's secret: the prices look so reasonable because they price vegetables separately. Overall though, the service was good and I would definitely return (making sure to order a side dish of vegetables).
