Where to buy Italian ingredients in London: Mercato Metropolitano
I happen to live near the amazing Mercato Metropolitano, a 45,000 square foot wonderland of all things Italian, cool, and sustainable. It's near Elephant and Castle, in a former paper factory, and has a mix of everything, including coworking spaces, boxing gym, restaurant stalls, outdoor seating, a cinema, and a supermarket.
I could rave about everything there, but I want to focus on the supermarket - Prezzemolo & Vitale. It's a supermarket chain from Palermo, Sicily and they now have an outlet here in London. It's literally a delectable collection of all food southern Italian and I'm incapable of walking through without buying at least one item.
They have everything you'd ever need to concoct the perfect meal: breads, pastas, rices, cheeses, charcuterie, fruits and vegetables, baking supplies, sweets etc. Of course, everything comes at a price, but I find the prices are on par with other premium London markets. You might be able to buy cheaper burrata somewhere else, but it's sure to be less authentic. Same goes for everything in the shop. And there are a lot of Italian products I haven't found anywhere else in London.
