Liberty's Kitchen Floor: Camels and Vegetables and Fruit! Oh My!

I was recently strolling through the time capsule wonder that is Liberty, an upscale department store near Oxford Circus, when I happened upon two remarkable items in their kitchen department. Liberty has the reputation of being the store stocked with exotic goods from far-flung places around the globe. I don't think free trade and the internet have done Liberty's monopoly any favours, and a lot of their stock just isn't that unique. But there were a couple of things that did catch my eye in the kitchen department.

First up, in the above picture, a camel teapot. Everyone has a teapot these days. But not everyone has a camel teapot. Technically the species cast in clay is a dromedary, but we'll just go with camel. How cool would you be if you were serving tea in a camel teapot? Supremely cool. Or if you were gifting such a quirky teapot for Christmas? You would be instantly special. And remembered. Because nobody forgets a camel teapot. And if you put out a manger underneath your Christmas tree, your camel teapot would fit right in.

Next cool thing is the vegetable and fruit ceramic serving ware laid out below. It's almost as if you had a pile of fresh harvest vegetables on your table. Maybe that pumpkin soup will be extra special in a pumpkin tureen. Or your risotto would look superb served in a red pepper bowl. Maybe your freshly-made watermelon juice will look super cool in a watermelon jug. How can you be sure? Only one way to find out.

A lot of Liberty's stock isn't as special as their price tags want you to believe, but I do think these items are quite the exception. Even if you're not willing to indulge for your own kitchen, they do make special gifts.
